Types of Overhead Insulators: Pin Insulators, Post Insulators and Suspension Insulators

The insulators used as overhead insulators in different industrial applications. Some of the insulators used as overhead insulators are pin insulators, suspension insulators and strain insulators. For low voltage application, the industrial applications make use of different types of insulators such as stay insulator and shackle insulators.

Used in power network with capacities up to 33 kilo volt, the pin overhead insulators are considered to be one of the oldest designed forms of overhead insulators. In accordance to the needs and requirements, the pin insulators can be one, two or third insulators. Power network with 11 kilovolt capacities generally make use of one part pin insulators. For higher voltage application, it is not possible to fix two insulators together with the pin insulators.  More than two insulators can be effectively fixed together on post insulators. For high voltage applications, insulators can be fixed on above other in post insulators.  On the bottom end of pin insulator, the metallic fixing arrangement is provided.  In addition to this, on top and bottom, the fixing arrangement is provided in post insulators.
